Center for women and children in Srebrenica

Center for women and children in Srebrenica was founded in 1997, which had worked as an integral part of the HA „Prijateljice“ Tuzla till March 2002, when HO „Amica Prijateljice“ Srebrenica became independent and regulated its status separately, in order to fulfil all legal norms and implemented in accordance with the existing laws. All the activities in the HO „Amica Prijateljice“ in Srebrenica are done through work with women and children. Information, education and reconciliation activities are three mainstreams of the Center activities, which on a monthly basis gathers about 110 women and up to 190 children.

Education contains of sewing courses, English language, computer and printing. About 70 participants attend different courses. In the area of information, we provide magazines from  Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Yugoslavia, Germany and England; public hearings and round tables are organized with the actual topics (privatization, return, eviction), seminars are attended in the area of micro-crediting, healing trauma, non-violent communication, and creative expression by drawing, etc. Reconciliation is realized through work of the Contact Group of women from Tuzla and Srebrenica, by participation in a single common project of making photos with women in Tuzla and exchange visits of members to three organized photo exhibitions in Germany.

The Contact Group is made of two groups of 8 women related to Srebrenica, either being expelled or living currently there, or in process of return to Srebrenica. Their purpose is making dialogue, and exchange meetings and seminars aim to reconciliation and they prepare and provide support to return process in that way.

Work with school children is done through group and individual work through psycho-social treatment and pedagogical care of children. This work considers counseling too, dedicated to their parents and involving mothers in the Center activities. Work with teenagers is done through workshops, creative activities and counseling.

As a special activity, there is a work with children with difficulties. Two groups of children, one with speech difficulties and another with development disturbances have support from a special pedagogue.
